Balance and perspectives of the Catalan development cooperation and peace-building in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. What cooperation? What advocacy strategy?

On Wednesday November 10th will be held at the Cultural Center Sedeta, the day of analysis "Catalonia-Palestine" by the Coordinator of the Catalan entities Amb Palestina al Cor focused on taking stock of Catalan cooperation development in the Palestinian occupied territory. This day was created with the support of the Catalan Development Cooperation (ACCD) and the collaboration of the Palestinian NGO Platform (PNGO) among others.

 

Representatives of external stakeholders and Catalan and Palestinian cooperation will participate in a debate throughout the day, serving to improve coordination and strategy development cooperation, peace-building and advocacy in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

This Conference is organised by Nova-Centre per a la innovació social and the Coordinator of the Catalan entities Amb Palestina al Cor, with the support of the Agència Catalana de Cooperació al Desenvolupament  and the collaboration of  Palestinian NGO Platform, Popular Struggle Coordination Committee, Escola de Cultura de Pau, Federació d'ONG per la Pau, 'Oficina de Promoció de la Pau i els Drets Humans, Barcelona Solidària and Fons Català de Cooperació al Desenvolupament.

 

  

Why does this Analysis Day take place?

 

With the background of the social, political and media impact that occurred after the violence broke out in late 2008 and early 2009 in Gaza as well as on the "Freedom

Flotilla" and after many years of dedication on the Palestinian Territory by many different Catalan entities engaged in advocacy and international cooperation, it seems that their current and possible future developments should be analyzed. The situation of increasing deterioration in living conditions of the inhabitants of Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem and the prospect of a not forthcoming resolution conflict, advises assess the activity of various Catalan cooperation actors, both public and nongovernmental, by holding a conference for the representatives of agencies that execute such cooperation as well as for citizens, who are interested in the care a priority area in foreign policy and Catalan cooperation.

 

The aims of the Conference

 

This Day is structured in different analysis sessions with the participation of experts and representatives of the main actors of Catalan cooperation. There’s a second block designed to create a horizontal space for debate and public participation. The objectives of the conference are the followings:

  • Analyze the type of cooperation that Catalan actors of cooperation carried out in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
  • Assess the impact level of Catalan cooperation in improving the living in the area.
  • Evaluate the main strategies and actions undertaken by Catalan civil society in favour of a fair peace in the region.
  • Know the future plans of the main actors of the Catalan cooperation including political parties that will participate in the elections of Catalonia in
  • November the 28th.
  • Explore mechanisms to ensure a greater level of coordination among all actors present in the area and their relationships with the Palestinians actors.
  • Perform a concert and a cultural space that allows fundraisers to raise money in order to face Russell Tribunal for Palestine to be held in London.

 

Action aimed to

 

  • Representatives of different levels of the Catalan administration on cooperation in the area.
  • Representatives of social movements and nongovernmental organizations working in the field of social awareness, cooperation development, peace building and humanitarian action.
  • Representatives of Political Parties interested in rethinking their strategy in relation with one of the key areas of the Catalan external action.
  • Analysts and well-known experts in this field.
